The egg does not seem to stick any more than it did when the pan was coated. It looks awful, but with a little cooking spray, works just fine. I finally peeled what I could of the coating off the second pan. I would request others also voice their concern to the company. At a $2 or $3 price off the shelf, I might replace the pan. Instead, I used the web site to voice my concern and request the pans be available retail along side the toasters saving the consumer shipping. The $5 replacement pan is quite the money maker. At checkout, the cost was nearly $20 or half the price of a new toaster so I cancelled the order. To save on shipping at the time I placed the order, I ordered 2. There is a replacement pan available on the Back to Basics web site for $5 plus shipping, but I note they are currently out of stock as of 11/08. The second pan soon began peeling as well, but the warranty has expired. I requested my replacement pan within the first 12 months as it was under warranty.
